Shiff skied well second race and grabbed a second step on the podium. She basically said she was gassed. Paula Moltzan had a great second run and moved up 15 spots to finish just outside of the top 10. The sad result was Noel Clement missing the last gate in the night slalom at Madonna di Campiollo. Tough break but that is the wicked and unforgiving part about ski racing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=agLJi72pb28&t=188s

Mikaela Shiffrin has tested positive for COVID and must sit out at least the next 2 tech races (SL & GS) in Lienz. Tough break, but I suspect there are going to be a lot more athletes going through the same thing as the next few weeks unfold.

Tough break, but I suspect there are going to be a lot more athletes going through the same thing as the next few weeks unfold. Already hit Lara Gut (she has missed several races pre-holiday and still out for these), Alice Robinson of NZ (back this weekend) and Katharina Liensburger (also back) are some of the bigger names impacted earlier. Guessing Lara was symptomatic given how long she has been out now, the others are likely not. Kind of stinks if they pop a positive and are barred from racing if vaxed and completely asymptomatic. They race outside after all.

Petra wasted no time in claiming the slalom today. Moultzan battled her way to 20th with a ski pole taped to her broken hand. Gutsy! The rest of the US gals were all wicked dive bombers in the first run. In the men's SG race in Bormio, RCS just missed the podium.

Mikaela is now the winningest skier in a single discipline all time, besting Stenmark's record 46 today on a slalom course in Austria usually reserved for the men. She did coming back from 5th after the first run. Both seem very appropriate. Petra still leads the slalom by 220 due mainly to MS missing a race after a positive Covid test and then straddling a gate to DNF in the previous slalom 2nd run. MS leads by 55 over Petra for the overall and 309 over current third Gogia. That part is significant as the tech is finished until the Olympic break ends, but several speed events upcoming.

Tough Olympic start for MS, but boy oh boy was the men’s DH was fun to watch, such a crazy looking course! Tough GS for American women. The Nina O'Brien crash right at the finish looked gruesome. Age was apparently part of the key for the men's downhill - Feuz 34, Clarey 41 and Mayer 31.The USA's RSC had a good run for 14th.

You know you're OLD, when you remember his Mom winning Gold in Sapporo FIFTY years ago.

Tough Olympic start for MS, but boy oh boy was the men’s DH was fun to watch, such a crazy looking course! Yeah, defiya bit strange start for both sides. MS and Bassino booting out at the same turn early. Odd the course was that rutted that early in run 1 but there was a correct way to ski the upper part and a wrong way. Hopefully MS has better luck later in the week. Paula did well coming in 12th.

Congrats to the Vt'er, RCS wins Silver Medal in the Super G. Was only 0.04 off the lead. Man, I thought he had Mayer when he jumped back ahead .18 at the last split. Lindsay probably had it right on the commentary, gave it back on the glide not being as aero or smooth on the last big turn. Still, awesome run and awesome Silver! Must feel great after coming back from his "minor broken neck" after the Hanni last year.

MS needed to pick herself up and ski down the course and waive to the crowd. Yes, I feel bad for her but sitting on the snow crying and holding up the entire race shows a complete lack of awareness and was bad sportsmanship.....get up MS, dust yourself off and get ready for Thursday.
