After Shiffrin's come from behind Slalom win yesterday on Petra's home snow, a bit of controversy today in the GS. With Shiffrin leading Petra after the first run for first, Petra laid down a smoking second to take the lead with Shiffrin to go. With Shiffrin already into the start gate, they held the race as Petra had broke a gate. Seemed to take an abnormal amount of time for the course workers to change it out, meanwhile Petra and fans kept celebrating at the finish. Mikaela admitted she almost pushed out of the gate when the hold came through thinking it was a go. Knocked her off her game. Can't help but wonder a day after the slalom if feet were dragged to cause a delay and mental hiccup for Mikaela. I have a feeling if Mikaela was still searching for the fire, this may have lit it off for her.

Jessie Diggins is confirmed to win the Cross Country world cup! She could add to that after this weekend by winning the Distance title as well which she leads by an unlocked 62 point margin. That will be determined this weekend. She becomes the first US female to ever win the Cross Country world cup and only the second American ever! Congrats Jessie!!

That will be determined this weekend. She becomes the first US female to ever win the Cross Country world cup and only the second American ever! Congrats Jessie!! This is so awesome! I’ve been following her since her breakout gold medal performance at the 2018 Olympics and she seems like the real deal, a champion in every sense of the word. Her book Brave Enough is in my Audible library, will probably start it next week sometime.

Final Slalom ran today, neither Shiffrin nor Vholva take home the Slalom globe. Liensberger wins on the big stage again to clinch the Globe, Shiffrin skied into 2nd today and wound up second for the globe, 3 points ahead of Petra (6th today). Petra's finish did earn her enough poi ts however to lock up the overall Globe ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami who missed out on a chance to catch her when all the finals speed events were cancelled. GS tomorrow but just academic, the globe is a lock for Marta Basino.

Wow - for "no energy" she was right on line for that gate - only had to hook 'em up and not stand up. That was just weird.

Wow - for "no energy" she was right on line for that gate - only had to hook 'em up and not stand up. That was just weird. Yeah, but that GS course was rough from all the new snow. Add to the fact that due to all the speed cancellations down the stretch and at the finals ahead of this race, she was robbed of any chance to compete with Petra for the overall. It could very well have been utter disappointment with how the season finished, especially where she had jumped ahead of Petra for the overall and watched as tech events ran and speeds didn't and Petra jumped back ahead. Not sure, would have to look, but I think Petra's overall win is the first time in a while the overall winner didn't win any individual discipline globes as well.

^^^^^^Amazingly, only MS's second win in Solden with the first actually a tie back in 2014! She looks to be back on her game, but so does Lara Gut-Behrami. Petra had a bit of a slow 1st run but climbed back to third although over a second behind both Lara and Mikeala. Should be a fun season, onto Lech for a parallel 11/13 then Levi for the first slalom followed by the K-Cup weekend Thanksgiving.

Given how this early season has (or more precisely, hasn't) progressed in NE this year, a huge congrats go out to Killy for passing snow control today for the K-Cup races. Absolutely herculean feat to pull that off this year.
