Sunday River switched its payment plan this year for season tickets to Affirm. After signing up with Affirm and after you can’t cancel they tell they don’t work with Mastercard. So the option was autopay from a checking account or debit card. As it turns out my debit card from my bank is a Mastercard as well and couldn’t be used. I tried using my checking account but to set that up (after an hour according to the guy in India) we have to call our bank and then another 3rd party called Plaid. I finally called back Sunday River and asked them to just pay this off in full on the credit card and cancel Affirm. Totally a pain and about 3 hours I could have been skiing. Anyone else have issues? I will avoid Affirm for anything in the future.

They're really a fintech consumer loan company. They don't take credit cards (that's their competition), so you have to use a debit card which is a very bad practice for anything but an ATM transaction. And they'll bombard you with marketing emails. They're very sneaky and non-transparent...you can't really tell what they are until you're well into the process. May not be an issue for most, but your credit score will take a hit because you're actually applying for a loan. Just pay for your pass !

Haha, I should’ve just paid. As soon as I did it I knew I should have just paid. Now I’m already getting calls from my bank about unauthorized charges on my debit card from Affirm and I never even got through the autopay process. Why would Sunday River partner with this bullshit.

Sunday River and other Boyne resorts probably started using Affirm because that is the same company the Ikon pass uses. As noted above, they do a credit check base your rate on that.

Boyne started offloading the payment plan to Affirm last year. Makes sense for Boyne because they get paid up front and don't have to administer a payment plan. I looked at the terms last year and came to the conclusion that Affirm is just a "high tech" consumer finance company. Sorry you ended up dealing deal with them. Boyne offloading payments to Affirm is definitely not a customer friendly move, and Boyne doesn't fully disclose the nature of the transaction. Sorry about your experience dealing with Affirm.

Nightmare trying to use it last year and issues with Boyne points getting credited using Affirm. I ended up just using CC last year and again this year. Much easier! SR definitely took the easy way out…..

Surprised Boyne funded payment terms in the past. Someone has to "pay" for the cost of money. I think I took advantage of Affirm last year - not sure - but aborted this year half way through because I tired of all the steps.
I'll take 0% money all day long when I can get it. Leaves my money earning 5%-8% somewhere else. If I can get a 1-2% interest rate then that's short money, but otherwise I pay up front and pay myself the interest rate I would have been charged. I like my money better than having financial people like my money. LOL

It was last year that Affirm started. I used it last year and this year without issue. Already had an account setup from buying my Peloton during the pandemic though, so it was easy. I could just pay it upfront, but I always choose a zero percent interest payment plan when it exists, might as well.

Didn't like having to "apply" for credit to another firm, so didn't use it last year or this year for either our NEP or iKon passes. With all my travel, all my credit bureau stuff is frozen, hate playing around with it for short $$ "loans" like the passes would be.

I was the dumbass for signing up for that just so I didn’t have one big bill on my CC. Should’ve done my homework.
I tried to add a debit card for autopay and after 3 tries to enter the data it wouldn’t complete the transaction and said try again. I called the company and got someone in India that said I had to call my bank and a third party called Plaid. WTF. Within an hour my bank called and shutoff my debit card for fraudulent activity. Bank said it was Affirm even though I never completed a transaction. I can’t believe Sunday River is using this company. After calling Sunday River they were actually very helpful and canceled my Affirm account and took my credit card for full payment.

It is unfortuneate that a company that is supposedly "smart" enough like Boyne can be stupid enough to contract with a company such as Affirm.
