I miss the Allman Brothers Band so much. Didn’t see them live for the first time until 1990, but probably saw them 20 or so times after that. They were the best damn band in the land. HBD GA http://instagram.com/p/C0l1_JsuhHQ

Snuck down and set on the isle seat behind the soundboard. Turned out they were recording for a live album. The cover was photo of band in front of venue. Goodtimes. Another night at Greatwoods when Ozzy's guitarist replaced Dicky Betts for the night. Sounded different for sure

Sounded different for sure I was at both of those shows! The Orpheum show was one of the best I ever saw! The first of two live albums titled “An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band” came out in ‘92 and includes 1 or 2 tracks from it (other tracks are from other dates on same tour). The second live album with same name (and same cover art) but with “2nd set” tagged on the end came out in ‘’95 and they won the Grammy for best live instrumental performance for Jessica. Both of these live records are awesome. The show with Zakk Wylde (former Ozzy guitar player) at Great Woods was on 8/1/1993 and certainly was memorable. It was my younger brother’s first ABB show and he was so pissed Dickey wasn’t there (Dickey missed the show because was sitting in jail on a domestic abuse charge). It has become a pretty famous/infamous show among ABB fans and there are several recordings of it on YouTube.

Anteloper, "Kevin Ropers Band", and Pure Jerry were awesome at the Fire on the mountain Festival. Melvin and JGB were high energy, loved the Althea. Great weekend with Maineskeir69 and had a nice Zenny sighting.
Also booked one of the weekends for the Sphere for Dead and Co. Great weekend.

Dickey’s music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. He wrote, co-wrote and performed some of the best songs of all time, none better than this one (I was at this particular performance). Rest in peace.
From the official ABB social media accounts:
With deep sadness the Allman Brothers Band learned today that founding member Dickey Betts has passed away peacefully in his home in Sarasota, Florida, following a period of declining health.
Dickey wrote quintessential Brothers songs including “Blue Sky,” “Rambling Man,” “Jessica,” “in Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and many others. His extraordinary guitar playing alongside guitarist Duane Allman created a unique dual guitar signature sound that became the signature sound of the genre known as Southern Rock.
He was passionate in life, be it music, songwriting, fishing, hunting, boating, golf, karate or boxing. Dickey was all in on and excelled at anything that caught his attention.
Betts joins his brothers, Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman, as well as ABB crew members Twiggs Lyndon, Joe Dan Petty, Red Dog, Kim Payne and Mike Callahan in that old Winnebago in the sky touring the world taking their music to all who will listen.
Our condolences to his immediate family, Donna, Duane & Lisa, Christy & Frank, Jessica, and Kim.
Play on Brother Dickey, you will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
