" Play ball" ? MLB hopes to begin the regular season in early July but first must convince players to sign off on a return-to-play protocol. Manfred on Tuesday began to outline MLB's plans in a meeting with the MLBPA and told CNN he is confident the league and union will strike a deal. The protocols, Manfred said, include everything from the cleanliness of chartered flights between series to reduced exposure by players to stadium workers. But testing will be the key to it all working, he said. "All of our players would be tested multiple times a week -- PCR testing to determine whether or not they have the virus," Manfred said, referring to the polymerase chain reaction tests that would be shipped to the SMRTL lab in Utah and processed in 24 hours. "That testing would be supplemented less frequently by antibody testing as well." Manfred said if there is no season, teams could lose as much as $4 billion, and some teams believe they will lose money even if games are played.www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29177183/repeated-coronavirus-testing-key-mlb-reopening-says-commissioner-rob-manfred

Rip Bob Watson and Best to Art Howe.
Blake Snell made an ass of himself...if you do not know who he is, just leave the channel.

Just came across this cover for the first time In years. Had a copy a signed copy when I was 10 years old. Somehow that disappeared faster than The Bird’s career, but years later I got a signed ball which I still have. He was from my hometown, and when he won ROY in 1976 I was in little league and he was larger than life. I got to take batting practice off him at a charity golf event for the Jimmy Fund at Sugarloaf in the early 90s, so fun and a big highlight in my “career” as a sports fan. The Bird remained a townie until the day he died in a tragic accident at his Northboro farm. His wife And daughter still own/run Chet’s Diner on Rt 20 in Northboro which is an institution in central mass. rip

Good story. I remember watching him on Monday Night baseball. Maybe was his National coming out game. He was crazy. Yep, it was that game against the Yankees. Late June of 1976. He was already a sensation in Detroit, then beats the Yanks in a complete game on national tv and just took off. He won 19 games with a 2.34 ERA that season. The most amazing stat is 24 complete games in 29 starts. MLB network did a special on him and that game in 2016 for the 40th anniversary. Narrated by Tom Selleck. Really good (I know I’m biased). Here’s a clip, the whole special is probably out there too but for those who don’t remember and for the youngsters who never heard of him, this will give you the flavor... www.mlb.com/video/mlb-network-presents-the-bird-c867712783edit to embed...includes clips of his family and friends and high school coach watching the replay of the game 40 years later at Chet’s...:

Quickly starting to sound less and less likely we have any Baseball this summer 😪
Players and owners are quite split on games and player salary. Then again, sounds like we will have NBA and NHL this summer which is odd but ok. MLB players need to be careful, they could be digging their own graves. Especially if say the NBA decided to shift their season/post season to run through the entire summer in the future?

There are at least two proposals on the table. I will wager anyone here that we will get an 80 or so game season with both sides making concessions...salary % will be final negotiating point for players. Either way, both sides are losing $$ in one way, shape or form.

In lieu of live sports, have been digging the 2007 post season run. I had forgot they went down 3-1 to Cleve in ALCS and then didn’t lose again sweeping the Rockies in the WS. Game 2 was on last night, Schilling’s last game, a 2-1 victory. Pedrioa, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Buchholz all rookies. Schilling should be in the hall just for his post seasons, 11-2 record all time not too shabby. Hard to believe that was 13 years ago, with HD it seems like it could be live.

Agree with your statement.... But, Schilling won't get in because of the very people you align with.... "Journalists" will never vote him in. Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required.

You have no idea who I “align with” other than not aligning with Trump. That said, I would question how much that really plays into it. My comment was sort of tongue in cheek, I think he’s got a shot but based on his overall record (baseball, not politics) he’s a borderline HOFer. It’s the playoffs that’s will get him in if he makes it...only 20 votes short this year so maybe 2021 will be his year.

54 more wins, is key along with Mussina being a great and quiet guy. Schillings mouth will hurt him for sure. Its too bad, but I dont see him making it.
