Around 30 years ago, thanks to Shawn Walsh. The guy who cheated his way to a National Championship? That came later.

Wait you adopted U Maine as your team? Around 30 years ago, thanks to Shawn Walsh. Brings back some good memories. Shawn was hired in 1984. At the time I was coaching high school hockey, and he was recruiting one of my players (kid didn't go to Maine, though). Shawn was just moving in and he had to get some coaches for the Maine summer hockey camp, so he hired me as one of them. I spent my first night there sleeping on his couch before moving into the dorm the next day. The camp was a lot of fun, and we had some good times with the guys at night in Bangor. Seems I remember a place called the Bounty. Back then college hockey was pretty conservative. Shawn was the consummate salesman and reminded me of college basketball coaches who were noted for working fast and loose on the recruiting trail. I don't think that the hockey establishment was ready for someone like him., and that's why he became controversial. But he sure knew his stuff and the players who played for him certainly were loyal. Witness Bs coach Jim Montgomery. It was tragic that he died so young.

Nice bump up for Maine. A bit off-topic.....spent some time this weekend down at the Rinks in Exeter watching a friend's kid who goes to Seacoast Performance Academy play in the 14 and under category. These kids are frigging talented!! Of course this is a generation of kids that never played any other sport and have been taking power skating lessons since they were like three. The vibe seems pretty intense.....crazy parents that seem to want to turn their kids favorite activity into their full-time job. I guess this is the new model for identifying talent......similar to ski academies. Quite a facility though.....no chain link fencing around the boards to mash your opponents face into.

It was tragic that he died so young. I am sure he was a good guy to be around and it was tragic he died too young even though I didn’t appreciate how he did somethings.

I had some hope. Its not like PC blew the Cat's doors off or anything. Shootout win and then yeah, a solid 2-0 win at home for PC. We'll see how Cat's rebound. So you are happy going 0-2? No, but I'd be even less happy had they been blown out and 0-2. Added: Looks like PC moves up with a first place vote in their stable now too. Maine jumps to 13th, UNH holds basically steady in a tie for 14th with UMass.

Yeah......you're familiar with it ? Yup, my nephew played with them from early on. He just switched out to a club in Hooksett as they get very heavily involved once they hit high school (to the point you have to pretty much do their educational program vs regular high school). My Bro and Sis-in-law didn't want that for him. But it is a good program with a lot of collegiate team placements out of it.

HE will be tight at the top this year Both PC and BC are going to be strong this year. Other teams like Maine, UNH and BU will certainly take some wins from the top teams. Merrimack & UConn were last years surprises. Home & homes again this weekend Bring it on - Go Friars

Great night to be a Friar. Love the energy the hoops teams is playing with....big early season game Tuesday, knocking out a Big 10 win in November pays off come tournament selection time.
